Description
This project was inspired by my childhood memories of playing card games with my grandparents and my fascination with their patterned Bicycle playing cards. I combined this with my interest in cryptids. I started with Sasquatch as the King of Clubs and then expanded the series to include other creatures like Nessie, Mothman and the Kraken.
The overall design of these cryptid playing cards is influenced by the elegant and flowing lines of Art Nouveau. And the color palette was chosen to give the cards an otherworldly and mysterious feel.
Process
I created hand sketches of the different cards to determine the layout of the patterns and placement of the different parts of the cards, such as where to place the scepter for Sasquatch and Nessie’s body in the water.
